Jerry Clay Jones

Jerry Clay Jones, 77, of Wooster passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare of Wooster.
He was born on March 8, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa, to Thomas Henry and Lois Vivian (Pryor) Jones.
Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician. He worked for AT&T and US West/Quest as an electronic technician for 37 years. Jerry was interested in aviation and built an airplane in his garage. He enjoyed working on engines and his 1984 Chevy truck. Jerry also enjoyed electronics as a hobby and once built a computer as well as assembling the family’s first color tv from a kit. He enjoyed camping and fishing with wife, Sandy, and his son, Jim. Several years ago, Jerry moved to Ohio to be nearer to his granddaughters. He enjoyed spending time with Katherine and Kara and attending school concerts and sporting events. Jerry was very devoted to God, studying his bible, and always willing to discuss scripture.
Jerry is survived by a son, Jim (Michelle) Jones of Apple Creek, Ohio; grandchildren, Katherine Jones and Kara Jones; two brothers, Donovan Jones of Stuart, Iowa, and Michael (Barbara) Jones of Des Moines, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Mary Jones of Des Moines, Iowa.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra Kay Mangus; his infant son, Jerry Clay Jones, Jr.; his siblings, Thomas A. Jones and Susie Lorimor; and his sister-in-law, Maggie Jones.
Family will be greeting friends on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens; 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa.

Jerry and I were graduates of Des Moines tech high school in Iowa.
He was always a very polite and nice person.
What I liked about Jerry the most was his smile.
I would see him in the halls and it was like a Beacon of light. He always made me smile.
God Bless him and his family.
