Service Details

Jerry Allen Coleman, 62, passed away peacefully in Des Moines, Iowa, the city he called home his entire life, on December 31, 2024. Born in Des Moines, Jerry was known to all who knew him as a kind, caring, and compassionate man. His warmth, sense of humor, and love for life left a lasting impact on those around him.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 24 years, Sheila Howard Coleman; his children, Stephanie Vandermark, Brandy Wolfe, and Josh Rankin; and his cherished grandchildren, Joe Vandermark, Olivia Rankin, and Kya Valim. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judy and Stanley Coleman.

A hardworking man, Jerry spent the earlier part of his life as a construction framer, and later worked as a scraper, recycling metal to keep it out of landfills. His favorite pastime was driving his Dodge around, looking for scrap metal, a hobby he found joy in. Above all, Jerry’s love for his family, his fur babies, and his infectious personality defined his legacy. He was always smiling, singing to Sheila, and ready with a joke to make those around him laugh.

Jerry's love was fierce, and his presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at Evergreen Church of Christ, 2215 Evergreen Ave. Des Moines, IA 50320. Saturday, January 18th, at 1:00 p.m.

May he rest in peace, knowing how much he was loved and will be missed.
