Janis Genovese passed away peacefully Monday, February 03, 2025, at the incredible age of 100.

Janis was born March 10, 1924, in Dedham, Iowa, the daughter of Marshall and Dorothy (Sparks) McComas. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines.

Janis enjoyed singing and dancing any chance she got. She really knew how to draw a crowd in with her entertainment. Anyone who knew her knows she loved to do the “Rum Boogie Woogie”, and she didn’t know a stranger. She was an avid reader of the bible and shared her love of The Lord with her “Peace Makers” Ministry group she had for over 40 years. She married the love of her life Marion Genovese Sr. August 25,1956. Together they raised two sons “M.J.” and Stephen. She was a homemaker for the better part of her life. She had an immense love of her family, and how special each and everyone of them were to her. She was a member of the Lighthouse Community Church under Pastor Andy Veith.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister, she is survived by daughter in law Kathy Teply (Genovese); granddaughter Janiece Jaye Genovese (Brandon Brady); great-grandchildren, Olivia Annette Lewis, and Ethan Webb (Fiance Ellen Main), and multiple nieces and nephews and cousins.

Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Dorthy (Sparks) McComas; husband Marion Genovese Sr. sons, Marion “MJ” Genovese, Jr. and Stephen Genovese, Sr.; siblings, Maureen Rocha (Tony), Margie Houchins (Al), Randall McComas (Ann), Rita Pantano (Steve), Donna Olson (Lloyd) William Marshall in infancy and her great-granddaughter, Amy Genovese.
