Janice Potts

Janice Potts, 73, passed away March 15, 2024, surrounded by the love of family.

Jan was born September 10, 1950, in Des Moines to Marvin and Julia (Hall) Collins. She graduated from East High School in 1968 and then went to work for the phone company. She married Bob Potts and they shared two children together.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She enjoyed watching her children play baseball and softball, fishing trips to Branson, Missouri, shopping, arts and crafts shows, and going to the movies.

Jan had a special bond with her granddaughters. “The girls” have so many memories and fun experiences with Grandma Jan. From a simple car ride for snacks, to a much further journey allowing them to see the world, either way they enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music in her Nissan Murano. No matter the destination, Jan was always there to provide her unwavering love, support, and laughs.

Jan is survived by her son Mike (Janna) Potts, daughter Tracey (Andrew) Mitchell: her three granddaughters Emma, Alaina, Jordynn; siblings Dan (Sharon) Collins, Nancy (Del) Enos; nieces Stefanie (John) Stenberg, Julie (Ivan) Collins; nephew David (Jodie) Enos; numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Julia Collins, her long time friend Mary O'Connor, and her companion, Jimmy Tharp.
Our family would like to thank the team at Hospice of the Midwest for their compassionate care for Jan.

We would also like to thank the remarkable staff at Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Specialty Care facility for their kindhearted and dedicated care for Jan.

Jan’s Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.
