Janet Faye Hackbarth

Janet Faye Hackbarth, 84, passed away on April 24, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Hospital.

Janet was born on April 27, 1939, in Lineville, Iowa, to George and Neoma (Nichols) Duben. She graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1959. Soon after, Janet married Vern Hackbarth and started their family. Born to this marriage was June, James, and Jeffrey. Janet worked for the State of Iowa as well as Mercy hospital. She then spent some time in the hospitality industry working for the Holiday Inn and Best Western before retiring.

Janet is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Terri) Hackbarth of Des Moines, Iowa; her niece, Nancy (Bob) of Bettendorf, Iowa; her children that she selflessly adopted out: her son, Perry Willer of Panama City, Florida and her daughter, Maryanna Duffy of Des Moines, Iowa; her son-in-law, Michael Fultz of Des Moines, Iowa; and her former daughters-in-law, Jody Combs of McKee, Kentucky and Laura Peterson of Mt. Ayr, Iowa. She is survived by her grandchildren who affectionately referred to as “Granny”, Robert Grossman of Des Moines, Iowa; Ronnie Goble of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Amy (James) Hoopes of Des Moines, Iowa; Jennifer (Mike) Fonseca of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Katie (Lucas) Smith of Mt. Ayr, Iowa; twins, Angela Hackbarth and Emily Hackbarth of Des Moines, Iowa; and Jennifer Fritz of Des Moines, Iowa. Janet is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Lennon Grossman, Rollins Grossman, Aiden Hackbarth, Lyla Smith, Gavin Smith, Haylee (Jason) Scott-Jones, Emma Hoopes, Mikey Hoopes, Stevie Fonseca, and Ruby Fonseca; and her great-great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Scott-Jones.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, George and Neoma Duben formerly of Des Moines, Iowa; her beloved daughter, June Fultz formerly of Des Moines, Iowa; her beloved son, James Hackbarth formerly of Des Moines, Iowa; her brother, Dean Duben formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa; and her sister-in-law, Jane Duben formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Cemetery; 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
