Jamie Ryan Van Wyngarden
February 18, 1979 — August 23, 2025
Jamie Ryan Van Wyngarden, age 46, passed away on August 23, 2025 at Mercy One Medical Center, Des Moines. He was born to Randy Van Wyngarden and Laurie (Crook) Van Wyngarden on February 18, 1979 in Newton, Iowa.
Jamie attended PCM High School in Monroe, Iowa, and was a proud member of the Class of 1997. He was involved in Little League baseball and continued to play baseball throughout high school. He was active in several fantasy football leagues, a member of Elks Lodge #98, and, in previous years, joined bowling leagues and slow-pitch softball teams.
Jamie worked at Titan Tire for over 20 years, where he met Jennifer Selix. The two were married on November 1, 2014.
He loved watching football, riding four-wheelers, golfing, camping, sitting around campfires, hanging out with friends, and enjoying a cold Busch Light. More than anything, Jamie loved making people laugh; he was known for his quick wit and his one-liner jabs. He was a proud dog dad, cat dad, devoted friend, loving father, and son.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Through the generous gift of tissue donation, Jamie has continued to help others as part of the Iowa Donor Network, creating a legacy that will live on for years to come.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Van Wyngarden; his parents, Laurie Van Wyngarden and Randy (Linda) Van Wyngarden; his children, Tyeson and Reide (Jade Six) Van Wyngarden; and Kim (Dave) Kinnaird, the mother of Tyeson and Reide. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and many close friends.
Jamie was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Wayne and Vivian Van Wyngarden; his maternal grandparents, James and Norma Jean Crook; his aunt, Nancy Crook; his cousin, Dusty Crook; and his father-in-law, Kenneth Selix.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge, 5420 NE 12th Ave, Des Moines (Pleasant Hill), Iowa, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Memorial services will be given by Jamie’s friends and family at 3:30, 4:30, and 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to assist with expenses and future memorials for the family.

There are very few honestly good people. We were all a little ornery but man we had fun. Truly a good one.
