James Smith

James Michael Smith (Mike), 76, passed away on August 16, 2023 while in his home in Mitchellville, surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born in Des Moines, IA to Howard and Louise (Phillips) Smith on November 20, 1946.

James enlisted in the United States Army and was a Veteran, serving over 3 years, most of which was in Vietnam – Mike was in the 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Company, The Big Red 1, The Black Lions. He enjoyed NASCAR, reading, camping, and traveling. Above all this, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren the most.

James is survived by his children, Shane (Angela) Smith and April (Blair) Isabey; grandchildren, James II (Callie) Smith, Tyler (Lindsey) Smith, Troy (Kody) Smith, Olivie Isabey, and Benjoin Isabey; great grandchildren, Ryland, Jenna, Saylor, and Wyatt; nephew, David Smith; niece, Cindy (Gist) McGrew. Along with many other beloved extended family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by the love of his life for over 56 years, Carol Smith and brother Donald Smith.
Graveside services will take place on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 12:30 p.m., at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, Iowa.
