James Meredith Hall

James Meredith Hall, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 27, 2025 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He was born on July 2, 1932 in Thurman, Iowa, to Alvin and Maxine (Johnson) Hall.

Jim was united in marriage to Gwendolyn “Gwen” Asman in 1952. Jim and Gwen loved country dancing with friends and family at the local night spots.

Jim proudly served in the United States Army. After being discharged they moved to Des Moines and he started working for AE Dairy and eventually the Des Moines Public Schools in the food service delivery. He was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church.

He loved fishing, camping and watching football, especially cheering on his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes.

Jim is survived by his children, Dennis (Pam) Hall, Teresa Hensley and Mike (Sandy) Hall; 10 grandchildren, David (Amy) Hall, Jennifer (Chris) Irlbeck, Angela (Truman Novak) Hall, Katelynn (Brandon Meyers), Hall, Sarah Marquardt, Emily Hensley, Jessica Hensley, Miles Hall, Rachel (Chad) Baker and Natalie (Cole) Caldwell; great grandchildren, Olivia and Claire Hall, Tenley Irlbeck, Demi, Scarlett and Ledger Novak, Grace Marquardt, Carsen Burris, Phoenix Hensley, Charlie Baker, baby girl Baker (due January 2026), Ava and Noelle Caldwell;

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gwen; sisters, Mary Starr and Rozella Houston; sister-in-law, Elaine Cooper; brother-in-law, Max Asman and great niece, Heather Allen.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 11:00 – 12:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
