James (Jim) Conrath
November 09, 1946 — March 10, 2026
James “Jim” Conrath, 79, of Waukee, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center with family by his side.
He was born November 9, 1946 in Des Moines to Doris and Audley Conrath.
Jim had lived in the Des Moines area for most of his life before moving to Waukee in 2005. He was a certified barber before beginning his work in the food warehouse industry for close to 30 years. He then went on to work for Des Moines Public Schools as a bus driver until his retirement in 2014. He was a proud veteran who served in the Vietnam War.
Jim’s biggest joys were his family and the Lord. Jim was a devoted husband who loved Carolyn unconditionally. He left a legacy of faith, strength, and laughter. He was his grandchildren’s number one fan, and attended all of their sporting events. Jim enjoyed camping, racing, fishing, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Conrath; children, Dena (Jerry) Dunham and Sara (Mike) Anderson; grandchildren, Blake (Courtney) Dunham, Bryce (Lexi) Dunham, Emilee (Brandon) Houser, and Maura Anderson; great-grandchildren, Nora, Vivi, Mac, and Baby Houser on the way; siblings, Audley Conrath and Carol Winget; and many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I only knew Jim a few years, but enjoyed his company and fellowship at Attivo Trail. I am so glad I was able to meet him and spend time getting to know him and Carolyn (CC). I appreciated the ride to see the 4th of July fireworks my first year at Attivo. I enjoyed seeing Jim volunteer to sing at church with the worship group. Jim was friendly and eager to help out. I will miss him. May God's blessing be upon your family.
