Irving Carl Tiffany, of Johnston/Des Moines, Iowa passed away on December 31, 2024.

Irving was born July 18, 1944 in Colfax, Iowa to Dorothy Carlyn (Eshelman) and Harold Carl Tiffany. He was a twin to sister Ivetta (Waddill). Irving grew up in Colfax and graduated with the Class of 1962. He later studied Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University and Computer Science at DMACC.

Irving married classmate Margaret “Joan” Ward in March of 1965. He worked in telecommunications installation for several years before taking a job as an instructor at the Electronics Institute in West Des Moines. Irving worked from 1970-1987 for Farmland Insurance (Nationwide) in Des Moines. He began as an instructor for new agents and achieved many industry designations (CLU, CPU, CPCU, FLMI) over the years and worked his way to Controller and then Vice President of Data Processing. After leaving Nationwide he returned to school and received a degree in Computer Programming and then worked as an Application Systems Engineer for Wells Fargo Mortgage from 1990 until he retired in 2012 to become a full-time caregiver for his wife. After the passing of his wife and son he continued to work and learn doing volunteer tax preparation for AARP, as a US Census taker and in the ticket office at Drake University. Irving was also a group leader for mental health support groups for NAMI. He served on the board of directors for Space Renaissance International until his death.

Irving was a lifelong learner, MENSA member and mental health advocate. He will be long remembered for his sharp wit, his compassion for others and as a loving husband and father.

He is survived by his twin sister as well as his daughter and son-in-law Sharla and Al Glick of Huxley. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother, his wife and son Brandon.

The family will greet friends Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am with the memorial service to follow at 11:30 am at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
