Helen Louise Hodson
Urbandale, Iowa
Helen Hodson, age 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Valley View Village. She was born the daughter of Martin and Hilda Tew on May 12, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Helen met the love of her life, Gerald at a roller skating competition. Shortly after, they were married and the two of them were blessed with three children. Helen’s family was her first priority and she took great pride in providing them a loving home. She was a loving mother and a wonderful grandmother.
Helen began her career working for Des Moines Public Schools for a number of years and later retired from Principal Financial as a Pension Administrator in August of ’87. After retirement, Helen and Gerald traveled around the country in an RV and the two became snowbirds to Apache Junction, Arizona. After Gerald passed away she decided to move back to Iowa and lived in Indianola. Helen enjoyed many simple pursuits, such as listening to music and cooking. She will be dearly missed by her family.
She is lovingly survived by her children Ramona (Al) Fiscus and Chuck (Jan) Hodson, grandchildren Teresa (Robb) Goedicke and Jason (Amanda) Fiscus, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and her sister Grace Tew.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Gerald Hodson, and son Dan Hodson.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, followed by burial at 12:30 p.m., at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Ramona,
I am so sorry for you and your family in the loss of your mother. Every time I hear of someone passing that is even remotely connected to our old Chesterfield group, a flood of emotions and great memories washes over me.
Again, my deepest sympathy to you all.
