Harvey Hascall
June 14, 1963 — January 23, 2025
Harvey (David) Hascall, 61, born June 14, 1963, of Des Moines, IA, passed away on January 23, 2025 from ongoing medical complications at University Park.
He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Hascall, siblings Antonia Mims, Shelia and Ricky Hascall. He is survived by siblings Marie Freeman and Daniel Ayala, daughters Samantha and Heather Hascall, grandchildren Montae’a, Lorenzo, Aaliyah, Aalazia, and Aalayah, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were family. David’s love extended to Harley bikes, scary movies, shooting games, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and his grandchildren. If you knew him, you’ve had a conversation with him about one of those things.
The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff at University Park Nursing and Rehabilitation in Des Moines, IA for years of service and care while David needed ongoing care due to his head injury. The injury took a lot of things from him but it did not take his sense of humor and the staff at University Park embraced and encouraged him to be himself till the very end.
The family kindly requests those who knew him to share favorite photos for a memorial folder with Samantha Hascall (Sammy Davis) on Facebook. We are planning a celebration of his life and spreading of his ashes in the summer, around his birthday, a time that coincides with the start of bike season, a nod to one of his cherished passions.
The family is not accepting donations or flowers. We are exploring options for donations to a charity for individuals living with brain injuries and we will share the charity when we gather to celebrate his life.
