Harriet Buck

Harriet Ann Buck
Of Ankeny, Iowa
Harriet Ann Buck, 90, passed away at home on January 24, 2025. She was born February 19, 1934 in Des Moines to John and Marie (Williams) Heuring.
Harriet loved people and people loved Harriet. She lovingly touched too many lives to count. The wee ones, and the not so wee ones called her Memaw, Grandma Harriet, or Mama Buck and she loved it. She was never short on encouraging words and found so much pleasure in seeing her loved ones succeed in life. Never has anyone lived who loved Christmas the way she did. Her homes were festively adorned with holiday decor, so much so it would take her days to construct and deconstruct her Christmas wonderland. Her holiday excitement was contagious. Harriet loved her flowering plants. Her balcony was an explosion of colors and smells, and the talk of Vintage Hills. As a young girl Harriet loved dancing. Her Mom and Dad owned a small grocery store in Des Moines. She married Marvin Buck Sr. in 1950. The two loved square dancing. Harriet had four children by the age of 19. Harriet was a very wise woman with a child like heart. Her wisdom and grace will be missed and remembered.
Harriet leaves behind her children, Marvin E. (Linda) Buck Jr., John W. (Claudia) Buck, Debra L. (James) Dyar, and Diana L. Buck; grandchildren, Christopher (Robin) Dyar, Justin Dyar, Morgen (Dustin Brower) Buck and Jennifer (Noah) Austin; great grandchildren, Will Dyar, Ayden Dyar, Prentice Dyar, Kate Dyar, Westley Austin and Vivien Austin.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin Sr. and her brother John W. Heuring
No formal services are planned at this time.

Harriet will be missed by many. Very kind and anxious to chat when we happened to meet. She was an important part of a growing Ankeny since the sixties. Rest in peace.
