Glenda Kaye Battles, 73, passed away on January 28, 2025 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. She was born on October 15, 1951 in Osmond, NE to Marvin and Hilda (Mohr) Bloomquist.

Glenda attended Norfolk High School and graduated in 1969. After graduation she moved to Colorado for a year to explore and then moved back to Des Moines in the early 1970’s. She met her now loving husband, Joseph in 1979 and they have been married for 42 years. Together, her and Joe traveled and were avid motorcyclists. Their favorite place was the Rocky Mountain National Park. They enjoyed their yearly camping adventures.

She worked at Meredith and August Home Publishing before briefly working for Warren County, where she retired in 2010. Glenda was an officer for the Sierra Club for 20 years. She did bible study at the Newton Medium Security Prison in the Prison Fellowship Ministries. She mentored several young women in their walk with our Lord. She also volunteered for the New Hope Vacation Bible school for several years. Glenda was a very religious and godly women who would do beautiful prayers. She was a beautiful, detailed writer. She could always be found with a pen in her hand. Glenda was an animal lover and would take care of all the stray cats in the neighborhood. She loved horses, horseback riding, and watching the birds in her birdfeeder. Glenda loved landscaping projects, gardening, designing flower beds – her favorite flowers are orchids and hydrangea’s. She loved her 2017 Jaguar and she took immaculate care of it. Glenda adored her family.

Glenda is survived by her husband, Joe; son Christian (Cathy); granddaughters, Taylor and Katlyn; brother, Loren and sisters, Lavine and Gloria.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Eugene.

Family will greet guests on Monday, February 3, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home.
