Gilbert Ellis Jennings

Gilbert Ellis Jennings, 87, from Des Moines, Iowa passed away on January 14, 2024, in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2024, also at Hamilton’s with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Ellis was born in Nebraska and was the eldest of four children. He lived in Des Moines most of his life and worked as a Maintenance Manager at Tones until he retired.

Ellis enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and taking fishing trips to Canada and hunting in Bedford, Iowa every deer season. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends, which often involved camping and boating trips.

He had a real talent and passion for car repair and could often be found puttering around in his garage fixing a car for a friend or family member. He maintained his own vehicles to the highest of standards. He could also give a sailor a run for his money with colorful language when the car parts or tools were not cooperating with his mission.

He is survived by his two sons Jeff Jennings (Susie) and Scott Jennings (Tambra); four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Janice Jennings; parents Raymond and Mary Jennings; brothers Frank Jennings and Chuck Jennings, and sister Ruth Jennings.
