Ginger Lee Avey

Ginger Lee Avey, 72, passed away on March 9, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.

Ginger was born on March 1, 1954, in Greene, Iowa, to James and Virginia (Rice) Kendrick. She was known for her vibrant personality and her love of having a good time. Ginger enjoyed animals, collecting nick-knacks, and spending time gardening with her husband, Doug.

On June 20, 2009, Ginger married Doug Avey, and together they created their forever home in Jefferson. She worked at Last Draw Bar and Bett and Bev’s BBQ, where she dedicated ten years before retiring. Ginger lived life to the fullest and was truly the life of the party wherever she went.

Ginger is survived by her husband, Doug; her siblings, Billy, Jimmy, Jesse, and Ladawn; her daughter-in-law, Gina; her mother-in-law, Judy; her two sons; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Virginia Kendrick; her infant son, Bobby; her nephew, David; her niece, Tasha; and her grandparents, David and Lucy Rice.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Ginger will be held at a later date.
