Gary Michael Fatino
Madrid, Iowa

Gary Michael Fatino, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 23, 2024 after a 20-year fight with cancer.

Gary was born on November 5, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in Greenfield Plaza with his mom and two brothers. In his younger adult years, Gary enjoyed motorcycle hill climbing, water skiing barefoot, and skydiving more than a few times. He loved cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, the St. Louis Cardinals and just about anything else as long as it was with a Busch Light.

Later in life, he found his dream home and property in Madrid, Iowa with his wife, Lisa. He was comfortable and proud to live in the country and loved to enjoy the peace and sunshine there as much as he could. Gary and Lisa loved traveling with friends, always having the next vacation planned. A trip to Lake Okoboji around Father’s Day with his kids and grandkids became an annual tradition.

Gary was known as a hard worker, a loyal friend, and a tough guy with the biggest heart. He adored his family and proudly bragged about them regularly. Gary showed his love by giving people a hard time, but with humor. He was always making us laughs with his unfiltered comments and colorful language. One of his biggest accomplishments was working for many years as a service tech to eventually owning Goodwin Tucker Group. He retired just a few short weeks ago and had many plans to continue traveling, as he loved to do. God and cancer had other plans, but Gary fought his absolute hardest to the end.

Gary’s loved ones who have gone before him are his mom, Sarah “Tootie” Fatino; his dad, Larry Fatino; his grandparents, Joseph and Irene Gagen and Edward “Turk” and Margaret Fatino; his uncle Michael Gagen; father-in-law, Joseph Kollasch; uncle Matthew Fatino; uncle Pat Fatino; aunt Kathleen and aunt Mary Jo.

Gary is survived by his wife, Lisa (Kollasch) Fatino; brothers, Larry (Leigh Ann) Fatino, Tony (Sandy) Fatino; his kids, Stephanie (Justin) Clark, Gary “Bubba” Fatino, Sarah (Ryan) Fatino; grandkids, Jaylen Fatino, Eddie Clark, Violet Clark, Nina Fatino, Niko Fatino, Dominic Clark, Anthony Clark, Vada McCready; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and hundreds of friends who adore him.

Family will greet guests on Monday, September 30, 2024 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., at Hamilton’s Westown Funeral Home. 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. A funeral service will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home.
