Garth Darrell Barker

Garth Darrell Barker, 75, died from heart failure on October 26, 2023 at The Bridges in Ankeny, Iowa. He was born on July 31, 1948 to Masel and Darrell Barker. He lived in Des Moines until 2004, when he moved to Altoona, Iowa. In 2020, he moved to Ankeny, Iowa.

He attended North High School. He worked for the State of Iowa as a custodian cleaning the State Capitol from 1978-1996. Garth enjoyed buffing the marble floors on the evening shift.

Garth previously attended Berean Church in Pleasant Hill and Adventure Life Church in Altoona. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Gayle Barker and David Barker and niece, Kimberly Fears.

Garth is survived by his sister, Gloria Kay (Bruce) Wardenburg of Ankeny and nephew Bill Barker of Huxley.

Service will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. Family will greet guests one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be made to his family who will donate at a later date to the Ankeny Fire Department in his name for all of their help to Garth.
