Freida Halsey

Freida Halsey, 91, passed away on December 25, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center.

Freida was born May 17, 1933, in Des Moines to James and Nina (Blackburn) Link. She was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Freida attended Lincoln High School. She was a hotel supervisor for 22 years and later went to work for CDS, a job she enjoyed for 10 years. Freida retired in 1992. She loved visiting with her family and friends. Freida was an avid reader. She also enjoyed putting puzzles together and listening to Country and Gospel music.

She is survived by her children, Jackie (Floyd) VanZandt, Debbie (Mark) Edwards, Jim (Becky) Anderson, Denise (Harold) Petersen and Lori (Tom) Norem; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

Freida was preceded in death by her seven siblings; Bob, Jim, Kenny, Larry, Louise, Virginia and Helen and her husband, LaVerne “Bud” Hemminger.

Freida will be laid to rest at Linn Grove Cemetery in Prole, Iowa at a later date.
