Fern Louise (Boucher) Harter

On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, Fern Louise (Boucher) Harter left this earthly home to begin her next life in our Fathers’ Eternal Heaven.

Fern was born on November 28, 1928, to Lee Boucher and Hattie (Altes) Boucher in rural Mingo, Iowa. She graduated from Mingo Community School in May of 1947. She was then united in marriage to Ralph G. Harter on May 18, 1949. In this union, they were blessed with four children – Rita, Randy, Rudy, and Renee.

She worked at the Vernon’s Company in Newton for many years. After retiring from there, she helped at the Colfax-Mingo Middle School as a teacher’s assistant and the kids loved her.

Loving always, Fern was a very awesome and special lady and she touched the lives of so many people, family and friends alike. She loved to watch baseball and basketball whether she knew the teams or not. One of her daily activities was working on word find puzzle books. We would no sooner get her a bunch of new ones, that she would say she needed some more. And she always had candy for the wonderful staff at Altoona Nursing and Rehab.

Her Faith in our Savior was unending and unwavering. She was very active in the Mingo United Methodist Church for many years and a loyal member in the Altoona United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish Fern’s life are her daughters Rita Jo (Harter) Doty Tiffany; Renee (Harter) Keicher; daughter-in-law Lorri Harter; grandchildren Amy, Bud, Wendy, Randy, Jr., Eric, Scott, Natasha and Kailee. Along with seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death is her husband Ralph; sons Randy and Rudy; her parents and two sisters Pearl Pinck and Aileen Vallandingham.
