Eugene E. Cluney

Eugene E. Cluney (“Gene”), 94, died on May 16, 2024. Gene was born on February 15, 1930 in Burlington, Iowa to Nelson and Blanche (Heller) Cluney. Gene was #4 child out of 8 siblings and the last one to leave this world.

Gene learned to “fix things” and make things with his hands from an early age. He enjoyed his carpentry work and made numerous things for his kids and grandkids over the years— from playhouses and toys to making his own camper!

Gene was a hard worker all his life but also loved to laugh and have a good time. Gene worked as school Custodial Engineer for majority of his life for several different schools and loved by all. Gene was a longtime member of Berean Assembly of God and a strong Christian.

Gene is survived by his five children— Patty (Steve) Thompson, Pastor James (Jeanne) Cluney, Michael (Kathy) Cluney, Janet Lorraine “Lorri” Cluney and Nicole Perae; 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona, Iowa. A visitation will take place on Sunday, May 19, 2024 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will occur at the Altoona Cemetery in Altoona, Iowa.
