Eric Carr
February 23, 1985 — February 18, 2025
Eric Carr, 39, of Mitchellville, IA, passed away unexpectedly on February 18, 2025.
Eric was born on February 23rd, 1985, to Marla and Jerry Carr in Altoona, IA. Eric graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 2004 where he played 4 years of football, and then went on to earn a degree in Criminal Justice at Grandview College in 2009.
Eric was a man of great faith, and enjoyed sharing that faith with others. He was always ready to pray with or for anyone who needed it. He was an active member at Trinity on 5th in Altoona, and participated in the church's Men's Group, as well as being a part of the church's security team.
Eric met his soul mate, Michelle (Smith) in 2009, and they went on to marry in 2012 and had two beautiful boys: Nile, 10, and Hudson, 7. Michelle and Eric loved going on dates, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on their boys at their various sporting events; especially Nile's baseball team, the Iowa Force.
Eric also stayed actively involved with the Southeast Polk school district as a member of Dollars for Scholars, as well as running the chains at SEP Ram's football games.
In his free time, Eric loved watching sports with his brother, Bryan, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes; checking in on his mom; and spending time with his in-laws, nephews, and niece.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Earl Albertson; father, Jerry Carr; and his father-in-law Michael Smith.
Eric is survived by his wife, Michelle; sons, Nile and Hudson; grandmother, Mardyll Benson and his uncle, Gary Albertson; his Mom, Marla Carr; his brother, Bryan Carr; in-laws LeAnne and Bob Fausett; and other cousins and family members.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m., at Trinity on Fifth, 602 5TH Ave SW, Altoona, Iowa. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 10:30am at the church.
In lieu of flowers, your appreciated donation may be directed to Eric’s family, for the expense of raising and educating his sons. Please wear your favorite black and gold sports attire to show your support of the two teams he loved— the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Southeast Polk Rams.

Eric was a light to all that knew him. His smile was infectious, his kind nature and love for family, friends and the Lord shined through. So many good memories from growing up together at church and school. He will be truly missed.

I’m sorry to hear about Eric’s passing. A life gone too soon. It’s been decades since I last spoke to him but I remember our times growing up together in Eagle Ridge. He was great at every sport we played from basketball to roller hockey. He always had a smile on his face and always looked for the best in others. I wish I got to know him as an adult, judging by the messages throughout social media Eric gave loved his community and they loved him back. He followed in the footsteps of his Father and I’m sure his family is proud of the legacy he leaves behind.
I pray for the communities of Southeast Polk because they lost a friend. I pray for Mrs. Carr who lost a son and Bryan who lost a brother. I pray and hold dear to my heart Michelle, Nile and Hudson who lost a husband and father. Though he is gone we know that he is in the arms of our Heavenly Father and I believe without a doubt a life touched by Christ will be celebrated today.
