Earlene Fisher
February 18, 1925 — June 10, 2024
Earlene Fisher, 99, passed away peacefully at Kennybrook Village in Grimes on June 10, 2024.
Earlene was born February 18, 1925 to Earle and Lola (Greening) Moore in Shelbina, Missouri. She had one younger half brother Charles Logan. Earlene grew up in Shelbina and graduated from Shelbina High School.
Earlene was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, alto clarinet, violin, and oboe in both the orchestra and the band. After graduating from high school, she married Bob Sherwood and had one son Thomas Edward from this marriage.
After the passing of her first husband, Earlene went on to work as a secretary for Shelbina Schools. In 1950, she married Robert Fisher and from this union four children were born. They made their home in Maryville, Missouri until 1951 and then resided in NE Des Moines, Iowa.
Besides raising her family, Earlene was employed by Frisk and Moon catering and later for the school lunch program at Wallace Elementary School. She was then employed at the Des Moines Public Library downtown and later retired.
Earlene was a great seamstress. She spent time sewing clothes for her daughters. She also loved to knit and do cross stitch. She enjoyed reading and working on jigsaw puzzles. Earlene was a member of the Union Park Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and attended bible study groups. She loved Jesus and was a devout Christian.
What was most important to Earlene was the time spent with her family. She loved holidays, celebrating birthdays, sleepovers with grandchildren, and any reason to be together with her loved ones. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and music activities, even in her 90’s.
Left to honor Earlene’s memories are her children, Ed (Candi) Sherwood, Wayne (Jennifer) Fisher, Sandra (Jeff) Sieleman, and Cynthia (Karl) Korver; 13 grandchildren, Patrick, Christopher, Maxwell, Mason, Ashleah, Tyler, Matthew, Luke, Tarah, Bryan, Chelsea, Klint, and Lindsay; 24 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Earlene is proceeded in death by her parents, Earle and Lola Moore; husbands, Bobby Sherwood, and Robert Fisher; brother, Charles Logan; and son, Barry Fisher.

Earlene was always such a sweet and thoughtful person. I was surprised by her obituary; she was a very accomplished musician and I had no idea!!! I had also forgotten that she was a seamstress.
I know she will be missed by her family and friends.
Until we meet again, Earlene!

It was a joy to me to visit Earlene these past weeks. She was always polite, expressing thankfulness, and always smiled and had conversation with me no matter how she was feeling.
She never stopped telling me about her children, expressing her deepest love and appreciation for them. I know she will be missed greatly by everyone who loved her, and I also know that you will all one day be reunited with the Lord.

I am so proud to have a wonderful person as Earlene Fisher as my great aunt. I loved traveling to Des Moines to see her and the huge family she was always surrounded by. When her husband Robert's sister was still alive, I would take her and my mother up to Des Moines to visit. What wonderful memories we all have together. Be seeing you in heaven when it's my time. Love you always!
