Dwight Eugene Ellis, 86, of Des Moines was called home to be with the Lord on October 1, 2025 with his family by his side.
Dwight was born to Roy and Lydia Ellis on April 29, 1939 in Pershing, Iowa. Dwight served in the Navy on the USS Ticonderoga and was honorably discharged after 6 years of service.
On December 30, 1960, he married Mardell Guyer. Dwight became a Christian and had a strong faith. He often shared his love for God with others. Dwight worked for the USPS where he retired after 28 years. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather, who will be missed greatly.
Dwight enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and golfing. He created many woodworking projects for his children. He also loved spending time with his family and friends.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Mardell Ellis; daughters, Annette (Rick) Sandquist, Deanna (Robert) Eisenman, Denise (Paul) Mumford and Jeanette (Mel) Plascencia; grandchildren, Kristina, Ashley, Amy, Ricky, Jessica, Olivia, Micah, Lauren, Joy, Matthew, Noah, Emily, Brooke, Katie, Seth, Emma; 15 great grandchildren; siblings, Roy, Leila, Gary, Sharon, Edie and Donnie.
He was preceded in death by his son, Keith; parents, Roy and Lydia; siblings, Johnny, Bob Dale, Harry, Ronnie, Carol, Ramona and Margie.
Family will greet guests on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., at Grace Church, 4200 E. 25th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m., at the church. Dwight will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, Iowa.
