Doris Lyon

Doris Louise Lyon, 92, of Ankeny passed away February 7, 2024, and is at rest in His grip. She was a firm believer in Jesus Christ.

Doris was born on March 27, 1931, in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert Gilmore and Sylvia Swift Gilmore. She graduated from East High School in 1949 and married Charles Robert Lyon (Bob) in 1959. They had one son together, Mark Lyon. Bob passed away in 1985.

Doris was passionate about yardwork, having a clean formal home, and keeping family traditions alive. She loved her son and grandchildren with all her heart and would give up anything for them. She enjoyed her weekly dinners with friends at Gino’s Restaurant and visits at Prairie Meadows Casino. Doris had a love for animals as she always fed the birds and the squirrels. She had a childlike heart and appreciated the humor from watching the Carole Burnett show.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, brothers Robert Gilmore of Minneapolis, MN and Larry Gilmore of Clive.

Doris is survived by her son Mark Lyon of Ankeny, brother Steve Gilmore of Colorado Springs, CO, grandchildren David Lyon and Jill Lyon of Fort Worth, Texas, sister-in-law Connie Gilmore and a host of nieces and nephews.

No visitation has been planned at this time.

Doris was a fun and entertaining lady. I have many fond memories with her. Its always sad to let our loved ones go but Im sure to see her again someday. May she RIP in the arms of our loving Father Jesus Christ.🙏💜🙏

We were so sorry to hear of your loss. Doris was close to Jim's mom, Louise (Gilmore) Schneider, her aunt. They were more like sisters and Mom spoke highly of her. After Mom had to have brain surgery and then while she spent over 3 years in nursing homes, Doris would call us regularly, often monthly, to see how Mom was doing. We enjoyed those chats and her sense of humor and appreciated her love and concern for Mom as well as her love for Jesus. She was definitely very proud of her grandchildren! After Mom's passing, we exchanged Christmas cards each year and we will very much miss the connection we had with her.
