Dennis Ahlberg, Sr.
May 14, 1960 — June 12, 2024
Dennis Stephen Ahlberg Sr. was born on May14, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Harold and Marianne (Silcott) Ahlberg. He joined his Heavenly Father on June 12, 2024. Dennis attended grade school at Christ the King and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1978. A lifelong Southsider, he was raised on Littell or ‘Ahlberg Avenue’ and had countless fond memories of growing up with his many cousins and four siblings, Mary, Lorraine, Brian, and Diane.
In 1985, he married Ann Loraine Hull and of this union, two children were born, Dennis, Jr. and Leslie. In 1993, he welcomed his son, Justin, with Kathryn Mulvaney Guynn.
The ultimate auto-body man, Dennis loved bringing his three kids with him to the shop. He instilled in them a love of Mustangs and tinkering on classic cars. They were endlessly awestruck by his penchant for fixing anything and being resourceful in times of need. Dennis never passed a stranded motorist without stopping to help and taught his children to appreciate the beauty and value in the simplest of things. In his later years, he enjoyed spending his time working at Maaco, watching old Westerns, and getting to know his grandsons, Greyson and Teddy. Dennis was known for many things but most of all, for being kind. He will be sorely missed.
Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, Marianne and Harold Ahlberg; and his sister, Lorraine Ahlberg Brownell.
He is survived by his siblings, Diane (Rob) Just of Tucson, Arizona, Mary Whitehurst of Mesa, Arizona, and Brian (Kelly) Ahlberg of Des Moines; children Dennis Ahlberg, Jr., Justin (Araceli Leathers) Ahlberg, Leslie (Michael) Nesbit, and grandsons, Greyson Ahlberg and Michael ‘Teddy’ Nesbit, all of Des Moines.
Family will be greeting friends on Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary service at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church; 5711 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow the funeral service at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Des Moines.
