Dennis L. Morman
October 10, 2023
Dennis Lee Morman, 74, died suddenly on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. A celebration of his life will be on Tuesday, October 17 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, West Des Moines. The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 am in the Parish Hall, with service at 11:00 am.
Denny was born March 17, 1949 in Des Moines to Leo and Audrey (McKenna) Morman. He was a graduate of Valley High School; a proud graduate from Iowa State University in Engineering, and received his M.B.A. from Drake University.
Denny retired from John Deere after 30+ years. His peers have described him as the “genius” who could solve any complex situation. He truly was a teacher, mentor, and became the resident expert fixer in the neighborhood. He loved designing, and built several additions to their home.
Denny met his wife, Diana, at St. Timothy’s in 1993, they married there in 1996, and enjoyed over 30 wonderful years together. They loved to socialize and entertain, and had many pool, holiday, and wine parties at their home. They also enjoyed traveling the US, Europe, and for many years they escaped the Iowa winters for Anna Maria Island, FL. Although Denny was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 43, his joy for life and family, and his ever-positive attitude kept him going strong, until the last few years.
Denny loved kids, proudly coached his son’s teams, and was instrumental in securing land for West Des Moines Soccer fields. His grandchildren were a dream come true, and he loved watching them play sports. He was an avid ISU fan and endured 50+ frigid football and basketball seasons (temp. and otherwise!). Go Clones!
He is survived by his wife, Diana (Ingram) Morman; son, Michael (Anne) Morman of Marion; stepson, Jamison (Stacy) Mauk of West Des Moines; and stepdaughter, Lyndsay (Ryan) Solomon of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Ethan and Kaiden of Marion; Addison, Charlee, and Teagan of West Des Moines; sisters, Diane (Jim) of Iowa City, Mary (Kerry) of Des Moines, and brother, Brian (Melissa) of Littleton, CO; and sisters-in law, Eldena (Miguel) of Lenox, Jeannine (Bob) of Atlantic; and many dear nieces and nephews and their children.
Preceding Denny in death are his parents, Leo and Audrey Morman of West Des Moines, and his mother-in-law, Marcella Ingram of Corning, IA.
Denny’s family would like to express their their gratitude to Dr. Lynn Struck for her unwavering support, and sincere thanks and appreciation to Cedar Ridge Village and their care team. They brought daily joy and laughter to Denny’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, or to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Des Moines.

I worked with Dennis for many years at John Deere. He was one of my production engineering support staff that I called upon many times when I was working in production departments. I always knew I could count on him to solve the problem at hand. He was a great guy with a tremendous personality. He always strove to do the right thing with both company and people in mind. Many times, we met on the production floor or in an office to work on solutions to various problems. I know he will be missed. Rest in peace.

Denny's obituary this morning surprised me. Had always enjoyed his company and his insights into engineering farm machinery, aside from the simple fun of talking of many topics with him.
Condolences to you, Diana. My own mourning and grief were muted when Sally died, perhaps because I had been mourning her loss over years of decline. I suspect this is a normal for some of us.
