Service Details

Dennis Ault, 73, passed away on August 30, 2023 at his home. He was born on October 15, 1949 to Lewis and Dorothy (Cox) Ault.

Dennis retired from the United States Postal Service after 25 years of service, he started as a driver and later worked as a dispatcher. He graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 1967. He was a member of the National Guard. Dennis was a devoted grandpa who followed his grandkid’s activities; from bleeding Black and Gold for SE Polk Rams to following the Bondurant BlueJays, he was there. After his knees gave out, he was on his scooter “Trigger” going from softball tournament to softball tournament supporting the girls. He was an umpire for softball and baseball, and a coach when his kids were playing sports. Dennis liked to go to the races in Knoxville and was a NASCAR fan. When he attended the Iowa State Fair, you could find him enjoying a ride on the Sky glider – one of his favorite things to do there. Dennis and Jane loved to travel in their RV, but he was just as comfortable just going for a ride around town.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jane; children, Greg (Angie) Ault, Denise (Paul) Prohaski and Melinda (Nick) Cataldo; grandchildren, Scott (Payton) Ault, Macie Ault, Brooke (Jace Surprenant) Ault, Quinn Ault, Cameron (Lauren) Young, Abbi Cataldo, Grace Cataldo and Jules Cataldo; great grandchildren, Leighton Ault, Emmett Young and Leo Young; brother Steve (Werdna) Ault; sister, Annette and his beloved dog, Goldy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jason Ault and in-laws, Wesley and Charlotte Swallow.
