Debbie Rowena Turney
September 18, 1954 — March 11, 2026
Debra Rowena (Casner) Turney was born on September 18, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Earl “Swede” and Colleen (Wright) Casner.
Debra started high school in Alleman, Iowa, where she was their VIP softball pitcher. After high school, she enjoyed bowling, played in a league, and going to the disco. She also liked to frequent the bar for a game of pool or two. In her later years, that was CJ’s Tap II.
She met Robert Craig Turney, and they were married November 27, 1982. They were blessed with only one child, Christopher Jon Turney. He was the love of Debbie’s life. Anyone who really knew her knew that about her. She worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield for 36 years and 10 months before retiring. In her 40s, she had to have a kidney transplant, which her brother Brad gladly gave her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son, her siblings Rosalie, Rusty, and Beth Ann, along with her parents.
Debra is survived by her brother Dan (Cheryl) Casner of Carlisle; sister Dorothy (Rick) Gould of Indianola; and brother Brad Allen Casner of Indianola. She is also survived by nephews BJ Casner, Ryan Gould, Aaron Gould, and Jason Gould, nieces Stephanie Gould and Crystal Lay, as well as many great-nephews and nieces, some of whom called her Grandma Debbie. She made friends quite easily and had many, many of them, not to mention the hundreds of relatives still on this earth.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 23, 2026, with funeral service following at 12:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Family asks that you dress casually.
