Darrell Ocheskey

Darrell Edward Ocheskey, 68, passed away on September 27, 2023 at his home. He was born on November 13, 1954 in Ames, Iowa to Edward and Virginia (Cramer) Ocheskey.

Darrell worked for Mid Central Plastics for 23 years as a laborer. Those who were fortunate enough to have met Darrell knew him as a passionate hippy who was unapologetically vulgar and crass; yet would give you the shirt off his back. This gentle giant loved his dogs, cats and his family – in that order.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Diana; daughter, Tasara (Chet) Hamilton; son, Brian (Anita) Ocheskey; brother, Jerry (Jane) Ocheskey; sisters, Kay Kimberly and Mary Knickerbocker. He was loving PoPo to Max, Evan, Autumn and Patrick and uncle Fuzzy to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Karen Holland.

The family will be honoring Darrell’s life with a casual gathering – (suspenders optional) – on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from
2:00 -5:00 pm at Vittoria Lodge, 7200 NW 2nd Ave., Ankeny, Iowa

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the ARL, 5452 NE 22nd Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50313 in loving memory of Darrell.

I met Darrell in 7th grade. Didn't have too many classes with him, but I will always remember him having a paperback in his back pocket. Thanks Darrell for showing me how exciting reading a book can be.

Another classmate gone too soon. He lived up the street from me. We did the typical things kids did growing up. I remember him delivering his paper route and riding with him on our bikes around Sheldahl. There are many other things we and other kids did together.

To the brother and sisters of the family, you will have the members that can never be taken away. He was a good guy.
