Service Details

Colin William Akerberg, 74, passed away on Tuesday August 22, 2023 at his home. He was born on October 18, 1948 to William and Geraldine (Flischer) Akerberg in Dorchester, England.

Colin was raised in North Dakota and moved to Iowa in 1967. He worked for Central Tractor for over 30 years as an engine rebuilder. He was a collector his whole life – buying and selling everything to make a buck. After he retired, he was co-owner of Auction Outlet with his dear friend, Sandy Machinsky, had a booth at Collectomania, and was a power seller on Ebay. Nothing brought him more satisfaction than finding an item at a garage sale and making a profit on it.

Colin is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Kimberly Akerberg (Kenny Semple) and Brian (Jenny) Akerberg; grandchildren, Ryan and Eric Semple and Lexis, Easton, and Emmett Akerberg; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Chance Semple; sister, Astrid (Larry) Senger; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, in Altoona with interment to follow at Altoona Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will be held following the burial at the Elks Lodge, 5420 NE 23th Avenue, in Pleasant Hill.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Unity Point Home Hospice in loving memory of Colin.

**Colin would want everyone to know that he is still trying to make a buck and his booth, #77, is still open for business at Collectomania!!**
