Charles "Gregg" Carpenter
October 23, 1958 — August 05, 2024
Charles “Gregg” Carpenter, 65, passed away on August 5, 2024, at Mercy Hospital from a sudden heart attack.
Gregg was born on October 23, 1958, to Stansford and Carol Carpenter in Baltimore, Maryland. He grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and lived the rest of his life on the southside of Des Moines, Iowa. Gregg was a man of many talents. He was a skilled mechanic, a volunteer firefighter, a musician, and a pretty okay bowler. He loved the game and could coach anyone. Gregg never met a stranger. It didn’t matter where he went, he always ran into someone he knew. Everyone called him something different, he was Gregg, Charlie, Doc, and Pops, and he wore all those names as a badge of honor. Gregg loved to cook on his Blackstone, sharing stories with anyone who was listening, and, if he could’ve, he would’ve bought a pair of Converse in every color of the rainbow. He was a proud man. Proud of how hard he worked, proud of his accomplishments, but he was most proud to be a husband, father, and grandpa. Gregg loved his family so fiercely.
Gregg is survived by his wife, Tessa; his children, Anthony (Stephanie), Christina, Robbie, and Alita (Spencer); his grandson, Jaytin; his sister, Alita; and his aunt, Sue.
Gregg is preceded in death by his parents, Stansford and Carol Carpenter; his grandparents, Barbara and Thuell Carpenter and Conrad and Eulabele Smith.
Family will be greeting friends on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial service will be immediately following the visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, it would make Gregg happiest to have memorial contributions directed to the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society in his loving memory.
We will see Gregg in every firework in the sky.

Wanted to let everyone know that myself and Mike Western, Dale Roller, Don Meyerhoeffer, and Charlie Mason went to high school with Greg. Greg always helped support our band by helping set up/tear down equipment and and ran the sound board. He liked it Loud! Play it LOUD in Heaven!
