Carla Marie Bolander-Thompson (March 23, 1932 -November 7, 2024). Passed away peacefully at Urbandale Health Care Center, where she has resided since June of 2015. Visitation will be Friday, November 15, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., with funeral services following at 12:00 noon at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. Pastor John Kline officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens cemetery.
Carla was born on March 23, 1932 to Anton and Alma Viere in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended high school at East High School, graduating with the class of 1950.
Carla married Richard (Dick) Bolander in March of 1951 and to this union 5 children were born. Carla remarried in 1985 to Melvin (Mel) Thompson.
Carla attended Zion Lutheran Church for many years. Hobbies and interests included, quilting, Bible study, reading, jig saw puzzles, bingo and traveling via a tour bus to many parts of the U.S. Her pride and joy were her loving family.
Carla is survived by her 5 children, Laura (Stephen) House of Urbandale, Tim (Chris) Bolander of Des Moines, Amy (Bill) Bethel of Ankeny, Eric (Trish) Bolander of West Des Moines and Beth (Steve) Smart of Eagle, CO; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Proceeding her in death were her parents; brother, Mark Viere; husbands, Richard Bolander and Mel Thompson.
Memorial contributions in Carla’s name may be made to the family.
We would like to thank all of the caregivers at Urbandale Health Care Center who provided loving care for Carla especially Jaime, Dee, Marina and Dini.

My Queen Carla!!!oh how you wouldve got a kick out of me taking your East high school sweatshirt because you know I am a Roughrider for life!!!!Thank you for allowing me to love and care for you!!!Even in your last days you still wanted to be so bossy!!!!I will miss our talks and our hugs!!I love you and glad I was always able to tell you!❤️sending love,prayers,and strength to your family and loved ones!!
