Bruce Herman
August 24, 1940 — January 05, 2025
Bruce Herman, 84, passed away January 5, 2025 at UnityPoint Health Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Bruce was born August 24, 1940 to Walter and Margaret Herman. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958 and started his 38-year tenure with the Des Moines post office. Bruce and Marsha were married in October of 1994. His spare time was highlighted by friends, family, and the joy of conversation. Bruce was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and belonged to multiple choirs that highlighted his love of music. Bruce belonged to a birthday club that was composed of his friends from high school-meeting every month to catch up and celebrate with each other.
One of the things that Bruce did treasure, was his 1969 Camaro. He was always protective of it and would make sure that his oil was always changed correctly. He loved to get his scratch off lottery tickets from Fareway. Bruce would regularly sit and talk with the employees while he was getting his scratchers. There wasn’t anyone who Bruce couldn’t make a conversation with.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Marsha Herman; children, Dana Zenti, Amy (Dave) Dueling, John Herman and Jason Herman; grandchildren, Nicolaus Zenti, Peyton Dueling, Ella Herman and Lily Herman; brother, Carl Herman; numerous nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Mary Ann Lindsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret Herman; brother, Wally Herman; and his son-in-law, Stephan Zenti.
The family will greet friends Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lincoln High School Alumni Association and American Postal Workers Union Des Moines Retirees Chapter.

I’ve been thinking of you several days now. We first met in our neighborhood-66 years ago!
No matter good or bad times, we are always “just there” for each other. Never alone.
We live in different cities now, I never got to meet Bruce.
But he sounds like a fun & happy guy.
Put all that joy in your heart.
Beam some out to people who might need a little
All my love to you
Stephanie

I'll miss you my friend especially at the birthday club once a month dinner/lunch. We've sure had a lot of good laughs and sharing of stories. Prayers for Marsha and the family and the many friends. Very happy I got the hug from you and Marsha and our last Baratta's lunch. Great memories ... R.I.P.
