Beverly Joan Smith
July 20, 1952 — December 06, 2025
Beverly Joan Smith, 73, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025. Born on July 20, 1952, to Carleton and Claudia (Woodruff) Pierson, Beverly was raised in West Des Moines and graduated from Valley High School in 1970. Throughout her life, she was known for her warm heart, positive spirit, and unwavering dedication to helping others.
As an adult, Beverly found her calling working as an in-home healthcare aide, a role she cherished deeply. She took great pride in being able to support those in need, forming meaningful connections with the individuals and families she cared for. Her compassion and commitment touched countless lives.
Beverly enjoyed simple pleasures that brought her great joy, especially her monthly casino trips and her love of crocheting. She created beautiful throws and afghans, which she delighted in gifting to family and friends. Her handmade pieces were more than crafts—they were expressions of love.
She and her husband of 36 years, Donald Smith, were active members of the American Legion Post and the Heart of Iowa Ostomy Support Group. Beverly continued volunteering with the support group even after Donald’s passing, always eager to help with meetings, potlucks, and offering support to others walking similar journeys.
Beverly is survived by her sister, Barb (David John) Hildebrandt; her nieces, Sarah (Kameron) Hildebrandt-Evans and Susan Hildebrandt; her nephew, Jake (Nicole) Hildebrandt; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Beverly was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Smith, and her parents, Carleton and Claudia (Woodruff) Pierson.
Beverly will be laid to rest at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. A memorial service in Beverly’s honor will be held at a later date. Her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
