Betty Evelyn Whitham, affectionately known as Mama Jo, passed away at 80 on June 2, 2024, at the Kavanagh House.

Betty was born on October 2, 1943, to Harold and Evelyn (Bequeaith) Whitten in Des Moines, Iowa.

Betty is survived by her husband, Bill; her daughters, Rita (Rick) DeBartolo and Susan (Frank) Accurso; her grandchildren, Ricky DeBartolo, Sam DeBartolo, Tony DeBartolo, and Frankie Accurso; and her sister, Joy Gibbs.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Howard, Don, Roy, Bill, Jim and John, and her sister, Virginia.

Family will be greeting friends at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines; on June 6th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Funeral service will begin immediately following at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Betty’s final resting place will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa, at a later date.
