Betty Peer
August 21, 1931 — February 07, 2024
Betty C. Peer, 92, passed away February 7, 2024. She was born in Canal Winchester, OH on August 21, 1931.
Betty lived a spectacular life, full of adventure and wonder. Following her father’s footsteps in the medical field, she became a registered nurse and was fortunate in the fact that she worked for the United States Embassy. Her career was full of opportunities that led her to Saudi Arabia, Africa, Egypt and Germany where she lived for a number of years. After retiring, Betty set a goal to step a foot on every piece of earth, doing so she traveled the world extensively. While traveling she met and endured lifelong friendships and touched numbers of lives along the way. She was known by many for her outgoing personality, zest and spunk for life. Even after retirement, she continued to care and love everyone. Betty was a nurturer and everyone in her presence knew they were loved. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Panama City where she was also a member of the choir. God held a special place in her heart giving her family comfort knowing she is in heaven surrounded by family and friends. Betty retired in Florida, and she later came to Iowa to be closer to family the last ten years of her life.
Betty is survived by her son, Michael Cummins; grandchildren Brianne Cummins and Matthew Cummins; great granddaughter, Emma Cummins; nieces and nephews, Cynthia (Kim) Karnes, John (Patty) Durbin and Stephen (Kim) Peer and 8 great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Walter Peer Sr. and Marceilla (Drumm) Peer; brother, Walter D. “Doc” Peer Jr., and sister-in-law, Juanita Peer.
Memorial contributions may be directed to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport, 4002 Ash St., De Soto, Iowa 50069 in loving memory of Betty and her love for her two cats; Zac & Zoe.

Betty Peer was a wonderful lady. My parents, Larry and Jane, were lucky enough to have her as a great friend when they lived at Copper Creek Shores. Rest in peace Betty and God bless you.

My dad Walt, my husband Ryan, and I were her neighbors on Alabama Ave in Lynn Haven. She was the absolute best!! All around fantastic human! I cherish the many memories, I always have and will continue to think of her often! When we moved in next door, we had just lost my mother to cancer and dad was given orders to Tyndall AFB. It was a terribly difficult time for us and she was a warm soul that allowed me to spend the night at her house occasionally when my dad had to work at night. Our condolences to the family and it was an honor to know such an amazing woman! May she continue to travel the world with wings of an angel!

Betty was the older sister I never had. She and my brother Lawrence were the same age and we all grew up together. She was the person who took me to dinner after I graduated high school. I loved being with her when I was young. I remember her ford car with the retractable top that went down in the trunk. Many wonderful memories. Rest in peace, Betty
