Bert Day, 86, passed away on October 24, 2024 in Des Moines. He was born on November 27, 1937 in Arbela, MO to Otto and Blanche (Wright) Day.

Bert was one of 10 siblings. He joined the U.S. Army in 1958 and was stationed in Germany. Bert was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, he was very proud of the U.S. Army and always kept his military photos up on the wall. He enjoyed singing and dancing. Bert was a very good singer and sang lots of songs for anybody who would listen. His favorite song to sing was “Red River Valley” by Marty Robbins and “Crying in The Chapel” by Elvis Presley. He was a printer for OEI for most of his life.

Bert owned a pumpkin patch “Day’s Pumpkin Patch” in northeast Des Moines for almost 10 years and took very good care of the baby animals. He liked being a contractor and built his own homes. He was also in the real estate industry as an entrepreneur. Bert would buy land and build different homes. He was very interested in Genealogy, he had stacks of research and went to
cemeteries to find more information about his ancestors. Bert enjoyed racoon hunting and went on different trips around Iowa. He was known as a family man. Many people looked up to him and he was very proud of his grandkids and family.

Bert is survived by his sons, Jim (Amy) Day and Tom (Kristin) Day; grandchildren, Nick (Maddy) Day, Meagan and Taylor Day, Wyatt and Emma Day; brother, Richard (Karen) Day, along with many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Opal, Leona, Robert, Vera, Rodney, Earl, Esther and Donald.

Family will greet guests on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Following visitation, a funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Bert will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.
