Arnold “Arnie” Ray Cassady, went to be with The Lord on January 27, 2025. He was 86 years old.

Arnie was born October 4, 1938 in Adel, Iowa. After high school he joined the United States Air Force and served for 11 years. Arnie worked for Armstrong Tire & Rubber for 6 years and later worked for Firestone Tire for 4 years. He then joined the Iowa National Guard, 132nd Fighter Wing. Arnie was an aircraft electrician for the A7 and the F16. He was with the 132nd Fighter Wing for 27 years.

After Arnie retired, he enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and fruit trees, canning, and raising his chickens. He also loved to travel around the United States.

Arnie attended Park Avenue Christian Church. He enjoyed going to Pioneer Columbus Senior Citizen’s Center in Southeast Des Moines and calling Bingo there. He also enjoyed eating lunch with the others and painting ceramics. Arnie helped at the Bellizzi MacRae American Legion Post #659 with the weekly calling of Bingo and on the floor.

Arnie was preceded in death by his second wife, Patsy Cassady and his stepsons, Jerry Koder, Jr. and Mark Koder.

Arnie is survived by his four children, Ray (Sandy) Cassady, Marie (Randy) Monahan, Dr. Susan (Billy Callan) Flagel and Debbie (Jeff) Ritter; and their mother, Faye Cassady.

He is also survived by his stepchildren, Dave (Lana) Hogan, Jim (Kelly) Hogan, Paul (Peggy) Hogan, Tom Hogan, Patty Longford, Dana (Dawn) Hogan, Matt (Erin) Hogan, Diane (Rick) Lapole and Glen (Deanna) Hogan.

Arnie is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Koder-Cassady; and her three children, Cathy (Bud) Hiemstra, Jeffery (Julie) Koder and Stephanie Roam; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family; dear friends; and his beloved dog, Lilly.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Arnie will be laid to rest with military honors at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or Tunnels to Towers Foundation in loving memory of Arnie.
