Arlene June Brown
June 12, 1925 — March 08, 2024
Arlene June Brown née Barnes, 98, died March 8, 2024, at Valley View Village. She was born June 12, 1925, in Des Moines.
Arlene was a 1943 graduate of West High School and worked for the Des Moines Recreation Commission until she retired in 1987 and was a member of Indianola Heights Evangelical Free Church.
She was married September 10, 1942, to Arnold D. Brown and was happily married for 76 years. Theirs was an incredible love story as they knew each other since she was eight years old. She and Arnold spent their 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii feted by family and marked by Hurricane Iniki in 1992.

Barnes, Elberta (Barnes) Riggle; stepfather, Ovel Riggle; sister, Marietta Brainerd Murphy; and her brother, Gerald L. Barnes.

Laura and Arnie, Ive known your mom forever, as you know. She was a great woman of faith. She faithfully rolled bandages for the hospital in Congo and made sure they were sent so the hospital had a good supply. I loved knowing her and sharing my life and friendship with her. Shes with your dad now and they are both happy to be reunited. Thats the comfort I have right now. Well done good and faithful servant.

Arnie and Laura,
We are so sorry to hear of your moms passing. We will remember her as a very gracious lady and funny too! Both of your parents were the nicest neighbors anyone could have. We are in Florida for the winter so will not be able to attend services but your whole family is in our thoughts and prayers.
