Miss Perry was my high school vocal instructor. To me, she was truly an inspiring educator who was devoted to excellence in performance. Whether it was a scene in a musical, a swing choir song, or a madrigal costume - she always had a clear vision in mind. Through hard work, practice, and maybe a little of her special charm, she helped us achieve that vision.
How lucky I am to have witnessed Alayna Perrys unique spirit and unending energy.

I got to know Alayna through her Music Appreciation classes at the DMACC Urban Campus. At the end of every semester, she would have her students participate in a vocal recital. I'm sure this was a first for many of the students to sing publicly before a large crowd at the Urban Campus. She was fun to work with and I looked forward to attending all of her recitals every semester. Alayna, you were very special to so many people. May you rest in peace.

Miss Perry gave me my first opportunities to accompany vocalists and dancers on the drums and "lead from behind", with brushes no less. Who knew that was even possible? She demanded precision time-keeping and appropriate fills to enhance the vocal performances. She treated me like a pro, and let me figure it out. These were revelatory experiences for a young percussionist and gave me the skills to drop into orchestra pits and vocal ensembles with confidence. I am grateful she was part of my musical upbringing.

Alayna.... what a beautiful person and great friend she was to me. I loved the millions of conversations we had at DMACC and I was so blessed to be able to type her book. Her life was amazing as she overcame every obstacle that life put before her! Heaven truly gained another Angel in their choir!! I will miss you tremendously dear friend as will so many others. May you rest in peace sweet one ...

Miss Perry was a force of nature in our little town. There was just no one like her, and no one had a more positive an d lasting impact on my life. She instilled in me a lifelong love for music and performing that just would never have happened without her encouragement. My best high school memories are from the spring musicals/swing choir, etc. Heres to a life well-lived; the world has lost a beautiful voice.
