Angela Wilz
June 17, 1967 — July 06, 2024
Angela (Angie) Danielle Wilz
57, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away on July 6, 2024.
Angela was born on June 17, 1967, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Jack and Carolyn Burke. She was raised in Iowa City, Iowa where she would graduate from Iowa City High School in 1985. She attended both the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa and received a bachelor’s degree in science for nursing in 1990. Angela was united in marriage to the love of her life and best friend, Fred Wilz, on June 8, 1991. She worked her entire 23-year career as a nurse at Iowa Methodist Hospital. She began as a Pediatric Oncology nurse at Blank Children’s Hospital and transferred later to the Blank Children’s Infusion Center.
Angie’s greatest joy in life was being around children. Whether it was the patients she treated, or spending time with family, friends of her children, or her neighbors, she found immense happiness in their presence. Her own children held a special place in her heart, and her love for them was immeasurable. Their families’ dogs were a close second, providing her with warmth and companionship throughout the years.
In her free time, Angie loved listening to music and couldn’t resist singing along to her favorite songs. Queen and 70’s music held a special place in her heart. She also found enjoyment in indulging herself in true crime podcasts, documentaries, and watching shows like Trisha’s Southern Kitchen. She would often take inspiration from these cooking shows as well as family recipes to make delicious meals for all to enjoy. Angie was also an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Her excitement and passion level while watching the games will be remembered by all those who experienced it.
Destin, Florida held a special place in Angie’s heart as her favorite escape. She cherished the moments spent walking along the beach, collecting angel wing shells, and admiring the beautiful sunsets. It was a place where she found peace.
Angie will be remembered for the love and compassion she continually spread to those around her, and it continues to grow within us today. Her legacy will be all the little things she did for us every day that went sometimes unnoticed but, in the end, added up to all the memories we cherish today.
Angela is survived by Fred Wilz, her husband of 33 years; children Zachary Wilz (Micaela) of Ankeny, Hannah Klink (Justyn) of Ames; father Jack Burke, of Iowa City; sister Amy Brandt (Tom) of Iowa City, brother Jeff Burke (Kate) of Cumming, Georgia; brother in laws Karl Wilz (Judith) of Kirkville, Hans Wilz (Beth) of Ottumwa; sister in law Katie Wilz of Ottumwa and several nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her son Nicolas Wilz; her mother Carolyn Burke; in-laws Karl and Doris Wilz. Her dogs Casper, Riley and Romeo.
As a family, we would like to send a special thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff in the ER, ICU and Powell 3 units at the Unity Point Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Their care and guidance were so comforting and greatly appreciated in our family’s greatest time of need.
