Alva Junior Long

Alva Long, 93, passed away on August 14, 2024. He was born on December 25, 1930, to Alva and Dorothy (Green) Long.
Alva had been an active citizen in the Johnston Community. Alva was a member of the Lions Club and served on Johnston’s Planning and Zoning Commission for 21 years, including 18 years as chairman. He later retired from his position as Chairman on June 30, 2001. Alva began working as a blueprint boy at Economy Forms Corporation (EFCO) at the age of 19 and worked his way up to a sales manager. At retirement, he was running EFCO’s Transform Limited arranging truck loads.
Alva and his first wife Evelyn were married 39 years before Evelyn’s passing. Alva met Mary McMahon whom he married and shared a love for 34 years. Alva has five children, Kathy, Denny, Karen, Lori, and Lisa.
Alva is survived by his wife, Mary (McMahon) Long; brother, Jerald Long; sister, Mary Ann Gates his five children, Kathy Swain, Denny Long, Karen Stilwell, Lori Gannon, and Lisa VanDenBerg; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Dorothy (Green) Long, and first wife, Evelyn Long.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Garden, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 22 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens. Burial will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue.
