Alice Jacob, age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Valley View Village. She was born the daughter of Itty and Annama Ipe on September 4, 1933 in Kerala, India.

Alice worked in Kuwait for 17 years as a nurse, came to the U.S. in 1976, worked at Des Moines General and Broadlawns Medical Center, before retiring at the age of 70. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and sharing what she grew, spending time with her family, and going to church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving daughter Sophia; son Solomon and his wife, Reena, granddaughters Anna and Ruby; son Sam and his wife, Suja, and grandsons Zachary and Daniel; and extended family in India.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, and her husband, Jacob Mathew.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., December 23, 2023 at Hamilton’s, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, followed by burial at Jordan Cemetery.

I worked as a nurse with Alice for many years at BMC. So many memories. Sometimes I would give her rides to and from work. I loved our talks. I got to know more about you, your family and your culture. The gardening tips! RIP Alice Godspeed! My deepest sympathies to you all!
