Andres Gomez, Sr., age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Mercy One Medical Center. He was born the son of Jesse and Frances (Negrete) Gomez on April 5, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa.

He is lovingly survived by his children, Adela Gomez Aguilar (Javier Aguilar), Delores Gomez (Hector Escamilla), Jorge Contreras, Juan A. Torres, Andres Gomez, Jr., Felis Gomez, Nicolas Gomez, Patricio Macario Gomez and David P. Gomez; grandchildren, Beatriz Zuniga, Sabino Zuniga, Jr. (Mariah), Selena Zuniga, Ericka Gomez, Erika A. Torres, Marisol Sanchez, Andres Gomez III (Raelynn Marie Steenblock), Lacey Gomez (Alfredo Morales), Nicole Gonzales (Sergio), Audrey Morales (Oscar), Angel Gomez, Carlos Gomez, Zacarey Gomez, Samuel Gomez, Liliana Gomez, Nelly Gomez and David Gomez, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Mariadela Garcia, Olivia Garcia, Sofia Zuniga, Natalie Zuniga, Avah Zuniga, Julian Zuniga, Mia Isabella Martinez, Gabriella Martinez, Catalina Martinez, Lorenzo Martinez, Dianna Gomez Morales, Andres Gomez IV, Alfredo Morales, Audianna Gomez and Miguel Morales; siblings, Santiago Gomez, Lupe Gomez, Thomas Gomez and Alejandro Gomez; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many special friends.

Andres was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Frances (Negret) Gomez; wife, Olivia “Vive” Gomez; grandson, Santiago Gomez; and siblings, Juan Gomez, Helen Gomez, Delores Gomez, Pancho Gomez and Manuel Gomez.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2024, also at the funeral home followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
