Abwe Mmbongwa Etabo

Abwe Mmbongwa Etabo, age 29, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024. He was born the son of Welongo & Anastazia Etabo on February 14, 1995, in Elumbe, Congo DRC.

Abwe lived in a refugee camp in the Tanzania for 19 years and later immigrated to the United States on April 28, 2015. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and lived there for two years and then moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 2017. Abwe worked for Tyson Foods for four years in Perry, Iowa.

Abwe was a member of Christian Family Church Paraboles. He loved singing in the church choir and fishing. When you think of Abwe, please remember him for his love for those around him, especially his family, and his faith in God.

He is lovingly survived by his parents Welongo & Anastazia Etabo, siblings Mauwa Ibiso, Zaina Echumbe, Kwibe Etabo, Abwe Roza, Ngolo Etabo, Julia Mlebinge, Sabina Yanga, and Charlotte Welongo, 12 nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members.

Abwe was preceded in death by his brother Wilondja Etabo, and his grandparents Etabo Asani, Sabina Yangya, Mmbongwa Abwe, and Mwanue Mmbongwa.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 28, 2024, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Franklin Center, 4801 Franklin Ave., Des Moines, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
