William "Bill" Miklus

William “Bill” Miklus passed away April 2, 2026 from natural causes. Bill was born August 14, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa to Mike and Ada Miklus. He was joined in marriage to Vel Miklus on February 6, 1954.
He and his wife owned and operated the County Market for 25 years. Bill served on the Saydel School Board for 11 years. He volunteered for the Saylorville Township Fire Department and was as very active in his church, Highland Park Christian Church for many years. Bill served as a Deacon, Trustee, and on the Kitchen Committee. He and his wife Vel also volunteered at the church helping with painting and other repairs that were needed.
Bill was a lifetime member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #33. He was a charter member of the Za Ga Zing Shrine Bag Pipe Band for many years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Croatian Fraternal Slavic Center, and VFW #9662. Bill will be deeply missed by those that loved him.
His first love were his family and grandchildren. Bill is survived by his children, Randy Miklus and Sheri (Steve) Grau; daughter-in-law, LuAnn Miklus; grandchildren, AJ (Jane) Warner, Casie Howells, Willie Miklus, Tim Miklus, Sean Miklus, Erin (Dallan) Colby; Elizabeth (Dave) Fitzgerald; two bonus grandchildren, Stephanie Grau and Ryan Grau; two great grandsons, Caleb Howells and Cobin Howells; two great granddaughters, Caelin Howells and Vivienne Fitzgerald; sister, Daisy Marcketti; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Vel Miklus; son, Garry Miklus; parents, Mike and Ada Miklus; brothers, Jack Miklus, Joe Miklus, and Jon Miklus; sisters, Amelia (Mickey) Miklus and Bettie Purdy; and special friend, Marilyn Hogue.
Family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial service will start at 2:00 p.m. followed by burial at Pine Hill Cemetery, 524 NW 54th Avenue Des Moines, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Highland Park Christian Church.

As a child, in an earlier time, I used to ride my bike to Country Market to buy tomatoes for my mom. Those were good times. The Miklus’ were good people!
