Wayne Rockwell

Wayne Robert Rockwell, 93 passed away on Tuesday December 19, 2023 at Valley View Village. He was born August 12, 1930 to Max and Evelyn (Moore) Rockwell with twin siblings, Darrell Rockwell and Donna Berry in Armstrong, Iowa.

Wayne worked several years as a welder at Massey Ferguson in Des Moines and eventually landed a position as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service at the E. 14th Street location. He retired from delivering mail after 28 years of service.

Wayne served in the US Army during the Korean War. When returned home he met his beloved first wife, Clara Williams. Together they had three children, Karla, Denise, and Robert. They were together until Clara’s untimely death in 1973.

Later, Wayne was blessed to meet his second wife, Kay Stroud. Kay had four children of her own, Teresa, Kathleen, Carol, and Donna. Wayne and Kay remained together until her passing in 2021.

Wayne loved the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and mushroom hunting.

Wayne is survived by Karla Rockwell (John), Denise (Carl) Espinoza, Robert Rockwell, Carol Huntoon, and Donna (Bill) Bennum as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wayne very much believed that Heaven awaits him and was happy to meet his maker. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends alike. May he rest in eternal peace and grace.

Family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, in Altoona. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 at Berwick Cemetery.
