Wanda L. Sherman

Wanda Lou Sherman, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
Wanda was born October 30, 1932, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Herman LeRoy and Violet Ellen (Thomas) Bailey. She grew up in Des Moines, graduating from Lincoln High School. She earned her Associate’s Degree from AIB and retired from the State of Iowa, Tax Revenue Department.
Wanda married her late husband, Donald, on June 29, 1951, and they enjoyed 32 years before his passing. She was a member of Indianola Heights Christian Church until they closed, and then attended Community Church of Christ where she was currently a member. Wanda was an avid reader and enjoyed going to Meskwaki Casino.
She is survived by her children, Rhonda Bailey of Des Moines, Howard Sherman (Jayne) of Kirksville, MO, Donna Johnson of Colfax, Carol Parsons of Perry, and Sally Maize (Harley) of Kirksville, MO; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Sherman; sons in law, Jack Bailey and Steven Johnson; and her siblings, Carolyn Bailey, Billie Johnson, Linda Scott, Guy “Pat” Bailey, and Larry Bailey.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, followed by a private family burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Community Church of Christ Building Fund, or directly to the family in care of Rhonda Bailey.
