Virginia Colleen Wood, 89, passed away on December 12, 2025 at Valley View Village in Des Moines. She was born in Sigourney, Iowa on January 8, 1936, daughter of Fred and Leona Bensmiller.
Virginia worked for American Republic Insurance. She loved going to Highland Park Christian Church and had many friends there. Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Rick (Michele) Wood and Rod Wood; grandchildren, Ryan Wood and Allie (Josh) Howard; great grandchildren, Joelle and Dax; sister, Donna Clubb; and many other loving relatives and special friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Loren Wood; parents, Fred and Leona Bensmiller; and sister, Mona Nichols.
Family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025 at Highland Park Christian Church, 4260 NW 6th Drive, Des Moines with memorial service starting at 12:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue, Des Moines.

Virginia was always such a delightful person, and she always had a smile on her face! I remember very fondly singing with her in the Folk Choir when Rev. Ken Watson was our director. I know that she touched the lives of so many people, and I feel fortunate that I was one of those lucky individuals! My condolences to Virginia's entire family. Please know that I will keep each one of you in my sincere and heartfelt thoughts and prayers at this time.
